Guided by the vision of our founders, our winemaker, Michael Silacci, combines intuition and technical acumen with the dual perspective of viticulturist and winemaker. When modern techniques benefit the winegrowing process, they are researched, evaluated and integrated into practice. In the vineyards, hand-harvesting and other traditional approaches are taken wherever they work best. These are complemented by the combined 70 acres of the Ballestra and River parcels, which envelop the winery. Two parcels, totaling 100 acres, are within the renowned To Kalon Vineyard. The estate vineyards of Opus One, comprised of 4 parcels, sit in the western portion of the famed Oakville AVA. This essential human touch brings forth the characteristics of each vintage through a balance of delicate coaxing and gentle restraint.

This singular mission shapes every vintage, today and for generations to come.īy combining the great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families, the founders’ singular goal was to create an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley. Together, our founders set out to create a single wine dedicated to the pursuit of uncompromising quality. Opus One, the realized dream of two men: was founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, legendary proprietor of Château Mouton Rothschild, and renowned Napa Valley Vintner Robert Mondavi. After an early rainstorm, there was a brief pause but the succinct harvest was completed on October 7th. Following a near-perfect growing season, harvest commenced on September 5th just as the grapes reflected an ideal balance between freshness and concentration. Timely rainfall and a continuation of mild and dry conditions throughout the year allowed the grapevines to support the slightly higher-than-expected yields. The 2014 vintage was precocious – marked by the earliest bud break in our history. Winemaker Notesīlend: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 2% Malbecīarrel Aging: 18 months in new French oak Enjoyable now, the wine will delight for years to come. Fine-grained tannins offer a velvety texture and complex structure that builds to a long, vibrantly fresh finish with a touch of mocha.
